Meanings are derived from a combination of recognition and understanding. Meanings are nonexistent in a wholly sensory or material world. Meanings and values are only perceived in the inner or supermaterial spheres of human experience.
The advances of true civilization are all born in this inner world of mankind. It is only the inner life that is truly creative. Civilization can hardly progress when the majority of the youth of any generation devote their interests and energies to the materialistic pursuits of the sensory or outer world.
Quote from The URANTIA Book, 1220:01-03
The inner and the outer worlds have a different set of values. Any civilization is in jeopardy when three quarters of its youth enter materialistic professions and devote themselves to the pursuit of the sensory activities of the outer world. Civilization is in danger when youth neglect to interest themselves in ethics, sociology, eugenics, philosophy, the fine arts, religion, and cosmology.
Dear Reader! On contemplating the return of Adam and Eve’s children, my first impulse (see “Part 37—The Sixth Revelation”) was to express my hopes that their “genetic inheritance” would be “strong enough to continue the mission of Adam and Eve,” so already you see me devoting my energies to the outer world. Maybe I am missing the point entirely. Adam and Eve’s children returning here must ultimately be a spiritual mission, which will be a new revelation! In the meantime, we have barely begun to digest the last revelation, our fifth revelation, The URANTIA Book, published in 1955.
In the passage quoted to introduce this essay, the revelator uses a word, “eugenics,” so infused with modern controversy it has become practically obsolete. We are alarmed that any regulation of our right to procreate violates our free will—we want to be left alone! But it is obvious that we are not isolated: we share this planet with one another. Since your health and well-being impact me, it matters how we bring new bodies into our world.
Our bodies are not Who we are—
we are a Thought of the Universal Father.
Our bodies are simply teaching devices for the mind; temporarily, one means of soul expression, not to be confused with Who we are. For the short time we are here on earth, our bodies are a means to a larger purpose—the expression of a Thought of the Universal Father. All Thoughts of the Universal Father are perfect and cannot be otherwise. Let us give them good bodies to use.
To foster the “advances of true civilization” it matters how we bring new bodies into our world. As supremely difficult as this prospect is to contemplate, we are remiss in our duty to ourselves if we leave the process of bringing new bodies into our world wholly to the hazards of chance. Please Heaven, help us sort this out!
