The Caligastia one hundred—graduates of the Satania [our system] mansion worlds—well knew the arts and culture of Jerusem [headquarters world of Satania], but such knowledge is nearly valueless on a barbaric planet populated by primitive humans. These wise beings knew better than to undertake the sudden transformation, or the en masse uplifting, of the primitive races of that day. They well understood the slow evolution of the human species, and they wisely refrained from any radical attempts at modifying man’s mode of life on earth.
Quote from The URANTIA Book, 0749:05-07
Each of the ten planetary commissions set about slowly and naturally to advance the interests intrusted to them. Their plan consisted in attracting the best minds of the surrounding tribes and, after training them, sending them back to their people as emissaries of social uplift.
Foreign emissaries were never sent to a race except upon the specific request of that people. Those who labored for the uplift and advancement of a given tribe or race were always natives of that tribe or race. The one hundred would not attempt to impose the habits and mores of even a superior race upon another tribe. Always they patiently worked to uplift and advance the time-tried mores of each race. The simple folk of Urantia brought their social customs to Dalamatia [the city of the Planetary Prince], not to exchange them for new and better practices, but to have them uplifted by contact with a higher culture and by association with superior minds. The process was slow but very effectual.
From observing the patient methods of the Caligastia one hundred, as they undertook the process of our first revelation 500,000 years ago, we may glimpse something of what we might expect from Adam and Eve’s children upon their return. They will not insist on themselves. If we refuse their offer of enlightenment, the burden is ours.
Their presence alone—over 8 feet tall, radiating the harmony of Heaven—will arrest our attention. So out of mercy and kindness, and out of deference to our propensity for unbelief, we may expect that Adam and Eve’s children will reveal themselves with the utmost caution. Meanwhile, let us be humble. We are not so enlightened we should be congratulating ourselves.
In patience we trust the outcome to the Universal Father. For 300,000 years of patience devoted to Him, the Caligastia one hundred would pursue their “slow but very effectual” methods, yet all would be upended by impatience. Without trust in the Universal Father, we believe the outcome is up to us. And unless we trust Him—always He knows best—we are confused and anxious.
Adam and Eve had a life together in the Heavens, abiding in grace, of many tens of thousands of years. But after only 117 years here on Urantia, they took matters into their own hands and brought disaster upon themselves and our world; at least, it seems, for a time. Our impatience makes time hard. One of the great lessons we all must learn is the patience of Heaven.
