And it was in reply to this amazing message that the noble Van made his memorable address of seven hours’ length in which he formally drew his indictment of Daligastia, Caligastia, and Lucifer as standing in contempt of the sovereignty of the universe of Nebadon; and he appealed to the Most Highs of Edentia for support and confirmation.
Meantime the system circuits had been severed; Urantia was isolated. Every group of celestial life on the planet found itself suddenly and without warning isolated, utterly cut off from all outside counsel and advice.
Quote from The URANTIA Book, 0755:04-05
The “amazing message” that incited Van to stand forth for seven hours in defense of truth was issued by the archrebel himself, by Lucifer, our System Sovereign, in support of the rebellion. At the rebellion’s outbreak Caligastia proposed to declare himself “‘God of Urantia’” (0610:01). To that end he directed his associate and assistant, Daligastia, to convene an extraordinary session of the ten councils of the Caligastia one hundred, at which Daligastia demanded that all the powers and functions of the councils be transferred to himself, pending a massive reorganization to be made by Caligastia.
To this preposterous proposal Van objected, and, in innocence, not realizing the higher source of the disorder, appealed to his higher authority, to Lucifer, his System Sovereign. When Lucifer responded in support of Caligastia’s nefarious plan, it was this “amazing message” that incited Van to draw “his indictment of Daligastia, Caligastia, and Lucifer as standing in contempt of the sovereignty of the universe of Nebadon.”
Van then appealed to the next higher level, to the constellation authorities. Standing by his faith, Van’s courage in the face of the rebellion of his superiors is an inspiration for the ages. The Most Highs of Edentia ruled in favor of Van’s appeal, but this decision never reached him because by then all circuits of communication were inoperative.
With the aid of loyal angels and faithful midwayers, Van and Amadon took possession of the tree of life. From among the Caligastia one hundred and the one hundred Andonite contributors, only the loyalists were permitted to “partake of the fruit and leaves of this energy plant” (0756:06).
Then for that period of “seven crucial years” (0756:00), in addition to the two hundred corporeal immortals of Urantia, every celestial personality in our system was marooned by rebellion and confronted the choice of eternity. Of the Caligastia one hundred there were 40 loyalists, and of the one hundred Andonite contributors there were 56. That leaves 60 rebels from Caligastia’s group and 44 of the modified Andonites who chose rebellion. This group of 104 individuals would be followers of Nod and found a new race, the eighth race on Urantia—the Nodite race.
It is of note there were more loyalists (56) from among the Andonite contributors who had never been to Heaven, than from among the Caligastia one hundred who had (only 40). There were 16 Andonite contributors choosing humility over arrogance, not following their partners into rebellion. Surely, a lesson we can take to heart.
