The Edenic caravan was halted on the third day out from the Garden by the arrival of the seraphic transports from Jerusem. And for the first time Adam and Eve were informed of what was to become of their children. While the transports stood by, those children who had arrived at the age of choice (twenty years) were given the option of remaining on Urantia with their parents or of becoming wards of the Most Highs of Norlatiadek. Two thirds chose to go to Edentia; about one third elected to remain with their parents. All children of prechoice age were taken to Edentia. No one could have beheld the sorrowful parting of this Material Son and Daughter and their children without realizing that the way of the transgressor is hard. These offspring of Adam and Eve are now on Edentia; we do not know what disposition is to be made of them.
Quote from The URANTIA Book, 0844:05
To avoid the strife that erupted following the default of the divine plan for uplifting the races, Adam and Eve and 1,200 of their loyal followers chose to vacate the first Garden of Eden in search of a new home. They would establish the second Eden in the heart of Mesopotamia, between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. “But shortly after their reduction to mortal status they became conscious of a new presence within them and awakened to the realization that human status coupled with sincere repentance had made it possible for Adjusters to indwell them” (0852:01). The path to Paradise was now open. On their planetary mission as the second revelation to our world, Adam and Eve did not possess Thought Adjusters, but as mortals this became possible.
In the reference quoted to introduce this essay, you will remember that the Most Highs of Norlatiadek are our Constellation Fathers, and Edentia is the headquarters world of our constellation. Of the 1,647 pure-line descendants of Adam and Eve, all we are told is that “more than three fourths of their children” (0844:06) became wards of the Most Highs on Edentia—no exact number is given.
Many years ago when I first read this passage, I thought that those children of age who “chose to go to Edentia” had passed up a glorious opportunity here on Urantia. By design the offspring of the Planetary Adams and Eves are not immortal, and it appears these ascenders are receiving a free pass on what seems to be the essential experience of survival. No one here claims dying is easy.
Bypassing the mansion worlds and Jerusem and landing straight on Edentia (our third heaven) might seem like easing into a long journey already a step ahead. Maybe these children do not need to be resurrected from a mortal death. Maybe they will bypass our system entirely and jump-start their journey to Paradise from our constellation.
Most pure-line descendants of Adam and Eve might well be prepared to start the heavenly ascension, particularly those children old enough to have made “their first moral personality decision” (1186:08), the age when we receive our Thought Adjuster. “Adjusters reach their human subjects on Urantia, on the average, just prior to the sixth birthday. In the present generation it is running five years, ten months, and four days; that is, on the 2,134th day of terrestrial life” (1186:08-1187:00).
But there are no shortcuts to perfection. Now I think Michael of Nebadon has another plan.
