The Melchizedeks are widely known as emergency Sons, for they engage in an amazing range of activities on the worlds of a local universe. When any extraordinary problem arises, or when something unusual is to be attempted, it is quite often a Melchizedek who accepts the assignment. The ability of the Melchizedek Sons to function in emergencies and on widely divergent levels of the universe, even on the physical level of personality manifestation, is peculiar to their order.
Quote from The URANTIA Book, 1014:01
“Melchizedeks are the joint offspring of a local universe Creator Son, Creative Spirit, and Father Melchizedek” (0223:15). They are descending Sons of God, of local universe origin. Twelve Melchizedek receivers assumed authority on Urantia “seven crucial years” (0756:00) after the Caligastia betrayal 200,000 years ago, and they returned to reassume authority after the default of Adam and Eve 37,000 years ago. But as the millenniums passed the light of revealed truth grew dim. The receivers grew alarmed and appealed for help, first to the Most Highs of Edentia, and then to Father Melchizedek. All pleas were dismissed. The Melchizedeks were thrown back on their own resources. Whatever was to be done they would need to do themselves.
Consequently, one of their number, Machiventa Melchizedek, “volunteered to do that which had been done only six times in all the history of Nebadon: to personalize on earth as a temporary man of the realm, to bestow himself as an emergency Son of world ministry” (1014:05).
4,000 years ago, without ceremony or witness, Machiventa materialized as an adult male in Palestine, a location chosen for its centrality and nearness to existing trade routes. “Salem was the site which after the disappearance of Melchizedek became the city of Jebus, subsequently being called Jerusalem” (1015:04).
Salem was also chosen for the possibility of contacting the children of Terah, the father of Abraham, whom the Melchizedek receivers had foreseen would possess the leadership potential posterity would need. Otherwise, Machiventa might have appeared “in Egypt, China, India, or among the northern tribes” (1018:08). He needed someone to assume “the responsibility of keeping alive the truth of one God” (1018:06), and Abraham rose to the occasion: “And he believed the Lord; and he reckoned it to him as righteousness” (Genesis 15:6, Revised Standard Version, 1953). Now we know from The URANTIA Book that “the Lord” of Genesis, in whose reckoning Abraham was righteous, was none other than Machiventa Melchizedek.
Machiventa’s emergency bestowal mission lasted for a period of 94 years before he was taken away, again without ceremony or witness. For the period of his bestowal Machiventa was indwelled by a Thought Adjuster. Except for the powers of procreation, his material body was similar to the ones especially constructed for the Caligastia one hundred and would have deteriorated had he stayed indefinitely. There was no tree of life; ages ago it had been “destroyed by fire” (0826:04). Functioning as mortals, Adam and Eve were unable to utilize the tree of life, and it was of no use to anyone.
Machiventa’s core message was our salvation by faith, not works. But he also promised that a future Son, born of a woman, would come as a greater revelation of our Father. Machiventa Melchizedek was our third revelation. That future Son would be our fourth.
