And it was during the thirty-third year of their sojourn in Dalamatia, long before the wall was completed, that number two and number seven of the Danite group accidentally discovered a phenomenon attendant upon the liaison of their morontia selves (supposedly nonsexual and nonmaterial); and the result of this adventure proved to be the first of the primary midway creatures.
Quote from The URANTIA Book, 0744:09-0745:00
In the region of the Persian Gulf some 500,000 years ago, the capital city of Dalamatia, “enclosed within a wall forty feet high” (0743:04), was built for our Planetary Prince. The corporeal members of the Prince’s staff, the Caligastia one hundred, were organized in ten councils of ten members each and worked alongside the celestials. The Danite group, composing the council of Dan, were “The advisers regarding the conquest of predatory animals” (0746:05).
In the reference quoted to introduce this essay, “their morontia selves” is a concept new from the revelation. Our “morontia selves,” at this early stage of our ascendant career, are the eternal souls we are evolving. Being eternal and of the Universal Father, our souls were never “born”—mortal language, mired in the limitations of time, fails miserably to convey this concept.
Passing from this mortal life we are resurrected—in our “morontia body”—on the first of the mansion worlds; passing through the seven mansion worlds and beyond, our morontia body will be progressively enhanced. By the time we graduate from our local universe, we will have had exactly “570 morontia bodies, each one a phase of your progressive transformation” (0542:02); afterwards, as we venture into realms of our superuniverse, we will have pure spirit bodies. Morontia designates the vast expanse between material and spiritual.
You will not be surprised to learn that a “midway creature” is someone whose existence is about halfway between a mortal and an angel. Midwayers are born as adults, as eternals who do not sleep or die, but invisible to ordinary mortals. Midwayers traverse space at two times the velocity of light, “while the seraphim and others can traverse space at triple velocity, about 558,840 miles per second” (0260:06), still not that fast by the reckoning of celestials.
Again from the reference quoted, “the primary midway creatures,” or primary midwayers, as distinguished from secondary midwayers, are energized by the same type of mind as the angels; secondary midwayers have a morontia type of mind, the same type of mind we will be given at our resurrection on the mansion worlds. The story of how the secondary midwayers came into being belongs with the events proceeding from the revelation of Adam and Eve.
Following the path discovered by “number two and number seven of the Danite group,” each couple of the Caligastia one hundred produced their own midwayer; after a year observing these fifty, the Planetary Prince authorized reproduction without restriction. But each of the fifty couples encountered a limitation of 1,000 midwayers and could produce no more. Therefore, the original corps of primary midwayers numbered exactly 50,000, which is standard, and no planet enjoys more. The Caligastia one hundred would have known that midwayers are found on all life-experiment worlds like Urantia; nevertheless, how startled those fifty couples must have been when their first midway creature appeared!
We too are confounded beyond all expectation to conceive that material beings—the Caligastia one hundred—could produce eternal offspring. But maybe, as I have proffered elsewhere, this is simply, “a wisp of a suggestion of our creative potential!”

We are new to the “universe neighborhood” and need to broaden our perspective to understand what is going on NOW on our world!
